Habitat for Humanity in Staten Island
Summer 2013 — As part of Hunter Roberts’ Year of Giving, New York and New Jersey staffers volunteered their time on Saturday, July 13, to assist with the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity project on Staten Island.
The project was a great team building experience, as volunteers were broken up into small groups led by an AmeriCorps team member and tasked with a variety of projects around the worksite. Kevin Sestak and Kevin Zimont stood out among a group of very hard workers, installing drywall around a large room by themselves.
One particularly rewarding moment occurred when the staff met with the future owner of the home, who was stopping by the site to see the progress on the house for the first time.
At the end of the seven-and-a-half-hour day, Habitat project coordinators raved about how the group from Hunter Roberts was the best they’ve had volunteer.
