University of Pennsylvania Tangen Hall
Hunter Roberts performed construction management services for Tangen Hall, the University of Pennsylvania’s first dedicated space for cross-campus student entrepreneurs, and the largest hub of its kind on any college campus. As part of Penn’s expansion into University City, this new 7-story, 70,000 SF steel, precast and glass building, consolidates entrepreneurship programs from Wharton and other Penn schools at 40th and Sansom Streets, once a Penn parking lot.
Tangen Hall includes co-working spaces for students to meet and collaborate; a cafe; a Venture Lab for Penn Engineering manufacturing programs; incubator spaces for start-up ventures; storefront retail space for piloting student-led ventures; a test kitchen for food start-ups; a Maker Lab with 3D printers and other digital tools for use by student entrepreneurs developing products and services; colloquium hall for guest speakers, receptions, events, and conferences; active learning classroom, seminar and workshop room; administrative offices; and co-located faculty and mentor spaces. BIM was performed for trade coordination and for coordination between the structural steel and precast panels, and their connections. LEED Silver Certified.
