NewYork-Presbyterian Queens (NYPQ) has awarded Hunter Roberts construction management services for their EES Separation of Power project to upgrade and correct existing electrical system deficiencies currently present hospital-wide. The primary project objective is to provide a new Type 1 Essential Electrical System (EES) to comply with NFPA 99, which consists of three electrical branches, life safety, and critical equipment which will be backed up with three generators as an emergency power source. As part of this upgrade, a new emergency electrical distribution room will be constructed in an existing radiology room to house emergency ATS’s and switchgear. In addition, seven new fire-protected electrical closets will be constructed in both the Ancillary Building and the North Building to support new electrical equipment. Extensive pre-planning will be required for this project to ensure the continuance of hospital operations as well as patient safety.
