This phased project called for a two-story, brick-and-block overbuild atop NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Annex Building’s parking garage in order to house two new 2.5-MW emergency generators. New fuel oil pumping systems and new automatic transfer switches (ATS) were installed with the new generators. Once online, the existing five 50-year-old generators were taken offline and removed. The project included several logistical challenges, including the project’s adjacency to an existing operational hospital, crane positioning next to a nine-foot elevated walkway between hospital buildings, and the site’s location along an ambulance drop-off area beside FDR Drive.
