This phased project for NewYork-Presbyterian’s Westchester historic (SHPO) campus which systematically upgraded the campus’ ex- isting 5kv distribution. The scope included over a mile of trenches throughout the 200-acre campus for the new distribution’s under- ground conduits and manholes. These trenches were carefully routed around the historic buildings and also ensured limited impact to foot and vehicular traffic. Campus is an active mental health facility and patient safety was paramount in developing any routing and logistics. This included covering the trenches in plywood at end of day for additional safety and security. In addition, campus housed emergency response vehicles, so maintaining flow vehicular traffic in certain areas was a requirement. All construction activities were phased to ensure there was no impact to daily hospital operations. This included the careful development of Methods of Procedures for any swing-over / tie-in activities. The final phase also called for the installation of a prefabricated equipment shed and 5kv switchgear. The installation of this 32-ton shed required a logistically challenging rig – in the heart of the campus – and effective coordination with ConEdison, who provides electrical service to the campus.
