MSK West Harrison Regional Cancer Center
This project renovated an existing, unoccupied commercial building into a new state-of-the-art outpatient facility providing diagnostic and therapeutic cancer care. The property contained an approximate 102,000-SF cast-in-place concrete building, including a partial basement, along with 400 parking spaces. Design called for a complete renovation of the building, including a new exterior wall, main entrance, roof, critical infrastructure upgrades, interior finishes, and sitework. A 14,200-SF, two-story addition was built on the front of the building to serve as a new lobby, waiting area, and visitor entrance, as well as to house two LINAC vaults. Two other additions were built to provide a rooftop penthouse and a loading dock. Selective demolition and abatement was performed in order to create new penetrations for mechanical shafts and skylights. Spread footings, grade beams, along with structural steel, concrete beams, and foundation walls were installed. A new exterior facade was also installed, comprised of curtain wall, stone panels, and metal mesh. Required site work included a Healing Garden, paver walkway, landscaping, and a concrete retaining wall. The facility incorporates a wide spectrum of advanced imaging technologies, including MRI, CT, and PET scans. Interior scope included the fit-out of the lobby and waiting area, reception area with a real-time patient location tracking system, a hot patient shielded waiting room, and chemotherapy infusion areas. During pre-construction, Hunter Roberts identified areas to increase the project’s LEED certification to Gold.
