This waterfront esplanade and park renovation covers an area from Catherine Slip to Rutgers Street/Pier 35 in Manhattan. This contract contained four sub-projects. For the Esplanade Reconstruction, the team improved infrastructure and drainage, performed paving and landscaping work, installed outdoor furniture, and constructed a skatepark along South Street. At the Pier 35 Public Park and Screen Wall project, Hunter Roberts installed a large screen wall and landscaped the public park, which was built to separate the existing Department of Sanitation building at Pier 36 from the East River Esplanade. A 2,400-SF structure containing community space, a maintenance room, and storage was built underneath the esplanade at the Rutgers Slip Pavilion Project. The Water Main Relocation entailed new 36-inch and 12-inch water mains with hydrants and catch basins that were tied into the existing combined sewer in 11 locations. Throughout each of these projects, Hunter Roberts maintained the East River Bikeway, with temporary path modifications during phases of water main installation. Several contractor bid packages were awarded to enable overlapping work in order to meet the aggressive schedule.
