Hunter Roberts’ successfully constructed this 1.25-acre green roof expansion of the Cira South Garage, which became Philadelphia’s first elevated park. The scope consisted of a single-level steel structure overbuild to the existing 11-story, precast parking garage. The new structure functions as a green roof implemented for stormwater retention and as an outdoor park area for the adjacent new residential tower and office building. The outdoor park area features multiple spaces to lounge and stadium seating built into the green space that looks toward Center City. The park includes restrooms and direct access to Walnut Street via new elevators and a stair tower on the south elevation.

The engineered design of Cira Green is the first project in the City to utilize innovative “blue roof” and “green roof” technologies for enhanced storm water performance; thus greatly reducing the development’s impact on the environment and surrounding public sewer systems. The “blue roof” systems lay under paved walking surfaces and provide the same hydrological performance as a fully planted roof. 31,221 SF Total Green Roof Area; 16,200 SF Blue Covered Water System
