BMW and Mini of Manhattan
The renovation of the existing BMW and Mini Cooper dealerships in Manhattan was comprised of two site locations: The Chapman Building and the 555 West 57th Street building. Both locations remained fully operational throughout the renovation. The Chapman Building consisted of 62,000-SF and was completed in four phases. Construction included a full interior demolition and interior fit-out of new showrooms and reception area, storefronts, service bays, locker rooms, installation of two new elevators and stairwells. The existing exterior stucco was removed and metal panels and solar shades were installed. The West 57th Street building is a 228,000-SF showroom and support space spread over six floors. This portion was completed in 22 phases. Construction included demolition of the existing glass pyramid at the corner of 57th Street and 11th Avenue and construction of a new atrium showroom, interior fit-out of customer service area and sales areas, car service areas including workstations, carlifts and carwashes, and cantilevered platforms to display cars. The exterior renovation consisted of partial re-cladding of the existing exterior with metal panels and solar shades. The project is currently on target to achieve a LEED Gold certification for the 555 Building and LEED Silver certification for the Chapman Building. This project required an extremely high level of coordination with other building tenants and demanded a detailed planning and look-ahead schedule to accommodate tenants hours of operation and ongoing BMW facility activity.
