The Summit at University City Has Reached Its Peak
October 15, 2014 – On October 14, tradespersons, Hunter Roberts staff, and representatives from American Campus Communities (ACC), Drexel University, and designers and engineers gathered for the much-anticipated Topping Off ceremony at Drexel’s Lancaster Square job site. The ceremony and luncheon was a significant one, honoring not only the final beam to be placed at the top of this project, but the opening of a new chapter in our relationship with Drexel, ACC, and the City of Philadelphia.
Drexel’s largest and most ambitious new student residence hall project, the 550,000-SF Lancaster Square development has been officially named “The Summit at University City” to kick off the opening of ACC’s new marketing office. The Topping Off luncheon coincides with the completion of the 24-story cast-in-place concrete structure on time, as originally scheduled, even after this past year’s difficult winter.
Currently, exterior window wall and precast panels are being installed on the building and the entire exterior façade will be completed in the next several weeks, prior to the winter months.
The project features connecting 24-story, eight-story, and five-story buildings with a total of 1,316 beds (351 suite- and apartment-style units). Also included are retail spaces, below-grade parking, an amenity deck, and a new kitchen and marketplace-style dining facility with seating for 400. The project is part of the university’s continued expansion and will serve as an anchor to the revitalization of the Lancaster Avenue Corridor. Completion is scheduled for August 2015 to allow for move-in of the students in September 2015.
The Summit is one of six projects that Hunter Roberts’ Philadelphia office has successfully worked on for American Campus Communities over the past three years. Others include two additional projects at Drexel University, two at Princeton University and one at Temple University.
