The new North Star Academy Charter School at 377 Washington Street in Newark, NJ includes construction of a 162,500 SF, 6-story school serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade, and facade improvements and ground floor level enhancements to an existing (attached) 4-level parking garage.

The Elementary School/Middle School will occupy the 1st through 3rd floors High School will occupy 4th through 6th floors. The building will feature (2) gymnasiums, (2) multipurpose rooms, (4) performing arts centers, and (4) Labs – Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Graphic Design.

The building is a steel structure on steel piles. A soil exchange is required prior to pile cap/grade beam placement. Facade is brick, metal panel and curtain wall. Various pick-up/ drop-off canopies and main roof is EPDM. Classroom construction is metal stud/drywall. Stair and elevator shafts are concrete. Typical school finishes include acoustic ceilings, painted partitions, vinyl flooring, and plastic laminate casework.
