Hunter Roberts completed two contracts for The Salvation Army: the remediation of 24-plus acres of the former Harrison Avenue Landfill, and the construction of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden, NJ. The Salvation Army’s goal was to provide Camden with a 124,818 SF state-of-the-art facility that reflects their mission of providing a “beacon of hope” to the local community. The building was designed and constructed with sustainable features.
Hunter Roberts removed and disposed of 15 tons of contaminated soil during the remediation. 80,000 yards of municipal solid waste was excavated from under the building and replaced with clean fill.
Project features include the Town Plaza, which serves as the gateway to all of the Center’s activities and as a hall for large gatherings; a 200-seat Performing Arts Theater anchors the entertainment performance activities and has a large operable wall allowing for interaction between the Town Plaza and the Theater; and the 400-person capacity Worship Center with the adjoining Family Learning & Education Classrooms.
