Hunter Roberts provided pre-construction and construction management services for the Crown Heights Charter School located in Brooklyn for the Robin Hood Foundation and the NYC School Construction Authority.  The new school consists of 200,000 SF for approximately 1,600 students from multiple charter school programs.  The school is featured with a rooftop terrace and playing field, two completion style gymnasiums, a “Cafetorium” with high definition audio and visual systems, a full capacity stainless steel cooking kitchen, art/dance/music studios, a reading library with individual study rooms,  and all classroom and science laboratories equipped with Smart Board and projection capabilities. This project is currently under review with USGBC for LEED for Schools certification Silver.

The exterior wall is all new construction consisting of over 100,000 SF of structural exterior wall framing, sheathing, and waterproofing, with a brick veneer spanning the city blocks of Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street from Brooklyn to Kingston Ave.  There are 150 window openings with specialty cast stone sills and surrounds.  The main entrance on Pacific Street is designed with three feature portals with cast stone columns and pediments as an accent.   There is a grand main lobby with specialty finishes which hosts the entries into the individual charter schools.
