At Ribbon Cutting, VIPs Glow Over Gouverneur Modernization
April 3, 2015 –Dignitaries, hospital staff, and partners all had the same thing to say about the new Gouverneur Healthcare Services building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side: remarkable. On the cusp of the hospital’s 130th anniversary, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place on April 2 to officially dedicate the new 420,000-SF facility.
Gourverneur’s Executive Director Martha Sullivan was quoted in neighborhood blog The Low-Down saying that the hospital was a, “gem of the New York Health and Hospitals Corporation.” U.S. Representative Nydia Velazquez, State Assemblyman Sheldon Silver, Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, City Council member Margaret Chin, and City Council member Rosie Mendez joined Sullivan at the ceremony.
Completed in 2014, Hunter Roberts provided construction management services for the extremely complicated project, which called for the 300,000-SF gut renovation and enhancement of the existing building, mechanical infrastructure upgrades to bring the existing hospital up to a code-compliant modern healthcare system, and construction of a new 120,000-SF steel and concrete diagnostic and treatment facility to expand the physical campus and overall program space.
