2116 Chestnut Street Grand Opening
September 4, 2014 —The grand opening of the new 35-story residential development at 2116 Chestnut Street was celebrated on September 4 and attended by The Hon. Michael A. Nutter, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia; Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Alan Greenberger; representatives of The John Buck Company and Hunter Roberts; as well as other dignitaries and building industry associates.
Residents began moving into the first 14 floors of the 406,000-SF, luxury apartment tower in June. The 321-units include studio, one bedroom and two bedroom layouts with amenities such as floor-to-ceiling energy efficient windows; balconies in all two-bedroom units and one-bedroom corner units; granite countertops; stainless steel appliances; kitchen islands and / or peninsulas; kitchen track lighting; side-by-side washer / dryer; generous closet / storage space. 2116 Chestnut Street offers three parking levels; an office floor; a 10,000-SF retail area; outdoor sundeck with green roof, hot tub, grill area, and seating; health club; and a club room.
Groundbreaking was held in January 2012 with the topping off in November 2012. Built on the former site of the Sydney Hillman Medical Center, Hunter Roberts’ project team completed the cast-in-place concrete structure in 10 months and began turning over units seven months later. All units were turned over within 19 months. More than 800 construction jobs were created on this project with no contractor, owner, or subcontractor claims or disputes.
